HOW NIP-05 WORKS
WHAT IS NIP-05?
NIP-05 is a Nostr Implementation Possibility that allows you to associate a human-readable identifier with your Nostr public key. It works by publishing a mapping between your identifier and your npub in a standardized JSON file.
Your NIP-05 identifier looks like an email address: name@domain.com
When someone verifies your identifier, their Nostr client checks a file at https://domain.com/.well-known/nostr.json to confirm that your npub is associated with that name.
This provides a way to verify your identity across Nostr clients and relays, similar to how DNS verification works.
SETTING UP YOUR IDENTIFIER
Contact me via Nostr DM on White Noise with:
• Your desired name (e.g., "alice")
• Your Nostr npub (starts with "npub1")
• Your preferred relays (optional)
Once approved, your identifier will be added to the nostr.json file and deployed. Your identifier will be live at:
name@undeveloped.space
In your Nostr client settings, add your NIP-05 identifier:
1. Open your client's profile settings
2. Find the "NIP-05" or "Verification" field
3. Enter: name@undeveloped.space
4. Save and verify
RELAY CONFIGURATION
Relays are servers for your notes and other stuff. I maintain paid subscriptions to these relays for reliable message delivery:
wss://nostr.land
A reliable, well-maintained relay with good uptime.
wss://nostr.wine
Community-run relay with strong performance.
wss://relay.primal.net
Primal's official relay with excellent reliability.
In your Nostr client:
1. Open settings or preferences
2. Find the "Relays" section
3. Add the relay URLs above
4. Enable them for reading and writing
5. Save your configuration
TESTING YOUR VERIFICATION
Most Nostr clients will automatically verify your NIP-05 identifier. Look for a checkmark or verification badge next to your name.
You can also test your verification using online tools:
• nip05.social - NIP-05 verification checker
• nostr.band - Nostr search and verification
• Your Nostr client's profile view
